Diaspora Files: Moving To The U.K Was The Best Move

Good afternoon Apostle.

Moving from Zim to the UK has had a positive result for our family. It has stretched us in terms of adjusting to early and very late working hours, but it has also been worth it financially. Life feels more stable and predictable, and we are in a better position to help family when we can.

Work has been the hardest part for both. Navigating toxic work cultures has been has challenging but what has made all the difference is our peaceful home. Our marriage has grown stronger out here. We adapted well together, we both pull our weight financially (household contributions are 100/100 so we're both all in), and we address issues early. We live a pretty quiet life. No big social scene, we have made our home so comfortable for each of us that on weekends we rarely even go out the door. We are both introverts and we genuinely enjoy each other’s company, we joke and laugh around. Communication is something we have come to value deeply, and it has kept us grounded. Saying please, sorry and thank you and always remembering to come back to the moment of love, even in anger. We are also fiercely protective of our family and our space. Literally the only visitors we have had are cousins, otherwise its just us two in the home.

We tried a few churches and found one that resonates. I mostly attend online. In person can feel a bit lonely since the congregation is almost entirely Nigerian, but the service feeds me and the Word builds me up, so I am grateful.

We do not regret the move at all. It has opened doors and shaped us. Still, by God’s grace, we hope to build something of our own that will allow us to return home one day and be closer to family cause we've missed deaths, burials, weddings etc and that is a pain point. But on the whole, despite the work issues, we are okay and we truly thank God.

Receive Jesus Christ today and go to church for spiritual fellowship.
