Executing Excellently

As I spoke at a conference with Pastor Tom Deushle, I spoke to him about how I desired the excellence he exhibited. In the discussion I asked him, offhand, what excellence was. His response was, “excellence is doing it with a little bit more love, care and thought (2023). Online, it is the quality of being outstanding or extremely good. According to our core values, we define exceptionality thus: a commitment to work toward becoming outstandingly good by being the best that we personally and collectively can be at each and everything that we do across a broad range of interests and activities (Ecclesiastes 9:10a, Daniel 5:12, Colossians 3:23).

The theme: “Executing Excellently”

“Proverbs 22:29 offers a profound insight into the principles of diligence and excellence, asserting that an individual who applies themselves with exceptional skill and dedication to their work will inevitably rise to positions of prominence and influence. This proverb posits that such a person will gain recognition and access to those in authority, rather than remaining in obscurity or among the unnoticed. It encapsulates a timeless truth that proficiency, commitment, and hard work are pathways to honor, advancement, and impactful service within society” (Truly Random Verse).

In ancient Israel, as in many ancient Near Eastern societies, social mobility was generally limited by birth and familial status. However, the proverb speaks to a significant exception: demonstrable skill and exceptional ability could indeed open doors to advancement. Highly skilled artisans, scribes, administrators, or even those demonstrating extraordinary acumen in agriculture or shepherding could attract the attention of local rulers, tribal chiefs, or even the king himself. Such individuals might be recruited into royal service, granted positions of significant responsibility, or receive royal patronage, thereby elevating their social and economic status considerably.

The phrase "standing before kings" was a tangible expression of gaining an audience, favor, and a place of honor and service within the royal court or administration. This was a highly coveted form of advancement and recognition, standing in stark contrast to the life of "mean men" (those of low status, obscurity, or lacking influence) who had no such access or opportunity. The proverb thus reflects a recognizable social reality where merit and competence could transcend typical social barriers.

The conference seeks to position and train delegates to a commitment and life of excellence especially in serving the great king, Jesus Christ in personal life, spirituality and administratively.

If you believe and follow this ardently in the next 3 months you will testify of the grace that I am seeing on you. Go on and prosper

Receive Jesus Christ today and go to church for spiritual fellowship.
