Moving The Church To The Next Level: Tithe Faithfully

The tithe is ten percent of what God gives you that is the income you get at any point in your life. “Out of these ten ones is mine,”

God says to you. Imagine if he said he would give you a tithe and take nine! Praise God he did not! The tithe is not yours from the onset: “A tithe of everything …belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord” (Leviticus 27:30c.f Numbers 18:21, Deuteronomy 12:6, 14:28, 26:12). The tithe does not at any point belong to you even before you get it. It’s not like you are doing God a favor by tithing that is why he commands us to pay His tithes and not to give tithes. We do not “give tithes”, we “pay tithes” (Heb 7:9).

The tithe is obligatory to all of us and God responds to tithers by sending a blessing over their lives: “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it” (Malachi 3:10). A blessing is the empowerment, wisdom, insight, anointing to prosper or succeed, or a word spoken over your life which results in good. Those who do not tithe end up inviting a curse over their lives. Malachi 3:8-9 says: Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me.

But ye say, wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. A curse is simply the opposite of a blessing. It is the empowerment, wisdom, insight, anointing, or word that ensures your failure is inevitable. I am a blessed man because I make it a point that no matter how broke I am, my tithe goes to my spiritual father, my own Melchizedek (Genesis14:18-20)

The tithes are expressly for the upkeep of the servants of God and worthy widows and orphans. “I give to the Levites all the tithes in Israel as their inheritance in return for the work they do while serving at the Tent of Meeting. Some tithes should be used to help the fatherless, widows and aliens” (Deuteronomy 14:28 of 18:1-8). 1 Tim 5:16 emphasizes that the church should take care of genuine widows who are without family support. It is partly because of this that many people now consider tithing an Old Testament issue which was abolished with the Law of Moses through Jesus. The few reasons show that the tithe is not as such:

The tithe was instituted four hundred years before the birth and ministry of Moses and the Law and came through Abraham and not Moses who simply codified it, Heb 7.

Jesus himself in Matthew 23:23 discouraged hypocritical motions of tithing forsaking more important issues but encouraged looking into the important issues without forsaking tithing.

Hebrews 7:9 suggests that the Levitical priesthood which was still in existence after Jesus' death and ascension still collected tithes way into the New Testament. His order has been replaced by the order of Melchizedek.

Do not listen to the lies of the devil but just do what God has shown to you and commands you to do. I will not dwell much on this but the point is you should pay your tithes faithfully. Enjoy your wealth and touch not God’s tithe and he will bless you as Malachi 3:10 commands: “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse that there may be food in my house…” Tithes go to God’s storehouse, the church where you are fed spiritually, where your spiritual covering and parentage is not in para-church organizations, inter-denominations, charity organizations, or any other. Even if you are in the diaspora you have to remit your tithes to your spiritual covering. However, it is important you understand that tithes are not offerings.

Receive Jesus Christ today and go to church for spiritual fellowship.
