Moving The Church To The Next Level: Plan, Organise, Administer And Manage

Many Christians think that planning is lack of faith and sign of anxiety and lack of trust in God.

That thought pattern was very popular yesteryear but I see many are now turning away from this distorted thinking. The proponents of the “anxiety” theory would say, “Jesus said, do not worry about tomorrow”. Yes he did and we should never be anxious about our future but he did not say that we should not plan. To be anxious means to be nervous, uneasy, apprehensive, fearful and frightened, while to plan simply means to sketch or prepare and map out an arrangement of how things are to be done. Do you see the difference now? For us to be successful we need to be planners and have strong administrative and resourceful minds propelled by the Holy Spirit.

The Bible shows that the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are master-planners. God created all things according to his purpose and plan. The seasons, winter, summer, autumn and spring are set by him according to his plan through the principle of time. Even the positioning of the sun, moon and stars are set by plan. Rain does not come from the ground upwards but from the skies downwards. This he settled by a principle He set in place called gravity. From John 14-16 Jesus was unveiling this plan, which would lead to pouring of the Spirit.

God is a planner and so should His children be. “Failing to plan is planning to fail”. If you are not planning then begin to plan to plan. If you do not plan you will end up with twenty children, which you cannot support and be a confused person. Our God is not the author of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33). The Spirit has anointed individual persons and given them gifts of administration (Acts 6:3)

Planning is very important. When you have a vision the first thing to do is to set your goals (be it in life, business, family, school or sports). What is it that you want to achieve? What is your aim? You need to list down your goals on paper.

The second thing is to ask yourself certain catkin questions, which can be summarized by an acronym S.M.A.R.T.

Specific/Simple – are my goals straight to the point?

Measurable – are the goals measurable and assessable?

Attainable – are they achievable or they are simply unrealistic?

Relevant- are they relevant to my life, ministry etc. or they are of value?

Timetable- can the goals be put in a time frame for progress – check sake?

Thirdly, when your goals have passed this level of questions another set of questions come up. The most important one is, “how am I going to achieve the goals?” If your goal is to win twenty souls for God; how are you going to do it? Will you have crusades, door to door, and use personal evangelism or what? Here we are now talking about the strategies. These are the weapons we use in accomplishing our goals. Other questions follow which include: where (place or venue), when (time) and others. Here try to involve a lot of people who will act as critics of your goals and strategies.

The fourth stage, after consultation is the application of the strategies in order to accomplish the goals and ultimately the vision. Do all things in order to see your vision come to be successful. However, after having discoursed about the vision submission, the Holy Ghost, prayer, wealth and planning I still must show you the more excellent way (1 Corinthians 12:31).
