DEFINITION: what is deliverance?
Many words but a few will be discussed here.
Hebrew word teshuwah, pallet: to rescue, to save, bring to safety and to help.
Hebrew word yasha: to defend, help, preserve, secure, preserve give victory
Greek word yashuwah: aid, victory, prosperity, health, welfare,
Greek word aphesis: pardon, forgiveness, liberty, remission
WHY DELIVERANCE?
- Bound/possessed, controlled or influenced by demons since they don’t work in a vacuum.
- One is unable to perform 100% normally
- Demons disrupt the work of God.

CAN A CHRISTIAN BE POSSESSED?
- What is a Christian?
- Man is a component of three parts: spirit, soul, and body.
- A true Christian, who living under the will of God, surrendering soul, body, and spirit to God and takes authority over evil spirits cannot be possessed but can be controlled or rather oppressed by demons if some doorways have opened.
- What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit...... (1Corinth 6:19-20)
HOW DEMONS CONTACT PEOPLE/HOW PEOPLE CONTACT DEMONS
1. Parental covenants and dedications- abuse of the covering authority Lamentations 5:7, naming, dedication, kugadzwa pabonde.
2. Generational line-Exodus 20:5, Jeremiah 31:29, Leviticus 26:40
3. Continual personal sin gives you a way to the devil-1 John 3:8, 1 John 1:9
4. Receiving money or gifts that have been cursed (zvakareererwa) or giving money or gifts to people who use them against you spiritually.
5. Hurts, abuse, and rejection- Matthew18:6 loneliness, unwanted pregnancies, rejection of unborn baby, single parenting, abusive language, physical, emotional abuse, divorce and deaths(of loved ones, dreams of such, miscarriages, abortions).
6. Trauma and accidents- shock, motor-car accidents, major illnesses, unexpected unemployment,
7. A personal invitation- e.g mubobobo, uroyi,
8. Involvement in false religious practices and occultic (hidden) sin: A historical (familiar), idol worship, witchdoctors, divination Satanism (and all other ungodly worship), incisions, concoctions, and evil charms, martial arts. You cannot sleep with the devil and just wake up well-Deuteronomy 18:9-14, Acts 19:19 opening your spirit to false ministers especially in laying on of hands- Acts 8:9-11
9. Ungodly alternative healing practices
10. Sex abuse: ungodly soul ties(1 Corinthians 6:16-17), adultery, fornication(1 Corinthians 6:18), sexual abuse, anal sex, beastiality, homosexuality and lesbianism, prostitution and pornography(Lev 18:6-19, 20:12-19).

13. Media: books, films, music, cultural dances Acts 19:19

· By God or His workers- initially to bring you to repentance, if you do not respond harm will come.
· By satan and his workers- to bring harm or death to you
· By yourself to yourself- negative confessions

SYMPTOMS OF DEMONIC INFLUENCE
Long term
1) Unexplainable backwardness or non-achievement
2) Spiritual galloping-constant exaggerated moving up and down spiritually.
3) Habitual unexplainable barrenness or miscarriages.
4) Astral projection- traveling outside your body.
5) Extreme behaviors
6) Dreams and nightmares:
a) fed whilst asleep- air world
b) Swimming which may be followed by fear of water bodies – water world
c) masquerade after you, snakes, dogs and mad people – madness and dull brains
d) snakes pursuing you – snake world
e) woman giving gifts – witchcraft
f) At graveside eating flesh- witchcraft
g) departed relative giving herb/cloth – witchcraft
h) being tattooed/ incisions – varied
i) leeching pockets – poverty
j) carrying basket – basket brain, dullness, lack of memory
k) Pregnancy, nursing, and feeding baby or thing especially breastfeeding.
l) Nakedness in dream-spirit of shame.
m) Extreme sexual dreams
n) Flying and meeting at certain locations.
o) Constant cooking and feeding in dreams.
7) Constant suicide, death thoughts.
8) Unexplainable sickness:
· defies therapy
· Particular time
· After a particular event, dream or visiting someplace
9) Hallucinations and hearing voices
10) The mysterious disappearance of property especially your undergarments.
11) Emotional imbalance:
· Depression (1Sam16:14 & 31:4), guilt (Acts 8:23), temper (1Sam19:10), anger
· Resentment, hatred, superiority/ inferiority complexity,
· Pride, confusion, memory failure, etc
12) Inability to love man/ woman or maintain affairs unexplainably and continuously
13) Inexplicable, continuous deaths which may follow a pattern
14) Strange reactions
15) Excessive:
· Fear of darkness, domestic animals and height
· Ill feelings towards people which causes stubbornness or moodiness.
Short Term
1) Vacant look: a glazed vacant look
2) Trances: eyes close when you roll their eyelids, eyeballs roll back and white parts show
3) Extreme strength
4) Intestinal disturbances something may move up and down
5) Strange reactions
6) Conflict and confusion (2Corinth 4:4 “blinded”= to render stupid)
7) Heightened sexuality
8) The feeling of suffocation feel as strangled, suffocated or tightness around the chest
9) Active/ passive resistance: fall down, acts as if dead or be violent or try to free, fight you
10) Vocal noises: cough, sneeze, speak, laugh, threaten, speak, cry, plead, lie
11) Bad odors: like sulfur
12) Seeing demons: little men, tokoloshis, etc
13) Resistance to God’s Word
SYMPTOMS OF FINANCIAL BONDAGE/SPIRIT OF POVERTY
1) You justify your lack and make excuses
2) You are critical of those who teach and preach prosperity.
3) You hate tithing and offering time
4) You believe a man/woman of God should not live in abundance
5) You are afraid to give under the direction of the spirit
6) Your immediate family or you always get ill/sick just after payday. You get sick every time you register a course or at work but healthy when home
7) You feel uncomfortable when you handle money. You only settle down when your pocket is empty
8) You observe people closely to see how they eat when they visit you
9) Lesser people get selected before you although you are better than them
10) Boss hates you for no apparent reason.

Recognize and obey those who have power and authority over them Acts19:13-16

WHO DOES DELIVERANCE MINISTRY?
It is important to note that not everyone is qualified to be involved in the deliverance of another person. You must know that deliverance like intercession is a dangerous ministry because it involves spiritual warfare and must be respected. While Satan was defeated long ago we must realize that we can only enforce that victory as long as we stand right with God or else we will experience defeat and harm from the devil since the devil still has power over where he has a legal right.
Job 41:1 ¶ Canst thou draw out leviathan with a hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down? 2 Canst thou put a hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn? 3 Will he make many supplications unto thee? will he speak soft words unto thee? 4 Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant forever? 5 Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?...8 Lay thine hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.
Jesus defeated satan as he boldly faced him because he did not have any satanic deposits in him. John 14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. Here are a few things that are important for you to check out before you embark on a ministry of deliverance.
You should be in Christ and having a continual relationship with him.
John 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it, abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. The sons of Sceva wanted to cast demons but without a proper relationship with Jesus and it ended up in disaster because the spirit realm knows all who are in a relationship with Jesus. Ac 19:12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.13 ¶ Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus, I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?16 And the man in whom the evil the spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
Have the correct motivation.
You should be compassionate, have a deep conviction and love for those who are under satan’s bondage. The basis of all work and activity should be love. Mt 14:14 And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed they are sick. Deliverance is not meant to boost your ego or that people know that you are a demon-caster nor is it for financial gains. Jesus healed people not because he wanted fame or riches but he’s the sole reason was compassion or love or it will not count before God. 1Co 13:1 ¶ Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. Lack of love causes people to lose the respect of people in the name of demonstrating the power of God e.g pushing people in prayer lines or publicly casting demons which Jesus did not do. Mr 9:25 And when Jesus saw that a multitude came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I command thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
Be prayerful and know when it is necessary to use fasting.
Mt 17:21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
Be knowledgeable about deliverance.
Having the zeal, power and authority only are not enough, you seriously need the know-how of dealing with evil spirits. It is like trying to drive a car without the necessary training. The car may be yours legally but as long as you are not schooled in its use it's easy to abuse it so you must not use it until you are taught. Ro 10:2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
Your preparation for deliverance
Cleanse yourself in the blood and seek God’s leading
Put on the whole armor of God- Eph 6:10-19
Have the anointing of the Holy Spirit Isaiah 10:27, Luke 4:18
By faith use the word of command- Luk4:32,36 Matth8:16, Mk9:25
Be flexible on approach- 1Corinth12:11
Be careful of pride- Luke10:17-20
Know when to use fasting and prayer- Matth17:21, Mk 9:29
PREPARATION FOR ONE NEEDING DELIVERANCE
History and counseling-go into the past and ask questions to know the origin of the problem.
These areas are important:
a) religion
b) Native/witchdoctor consultation
c) Occultic participation or consultation (witchcraft or Satanism)
d) Is the problem hereditary?
e) Is there a curse on the family?
f) Has the patient gone to places for a solution? Where? Frequency? etc
g) Was there any relief
h) Dreams etc
i) Strange phenomena etc
Teach the person to have a desire for liberty and from the scriptures. Encourage the person to attend Bible studies and church programs.
Break off contacts with the evil spirit world, mediums, covenants.
Destroy articles of witchcraft, charms, talisman, tokoloshis, cloths, images, bangles, foot rings, etc- Leviticus 19:31, Deuteronomy 7:2-6, 18:10-14, Zechariah 10:2
Lead the person into confession (James 5:16), confession prayers where the person denounces all evil ways and things (2Corinth4:2) and every covenant, association, involvement in the spirit world. The person should receive the Lord Jesus Christ into his/her spirit then and forgive all who wronged the person
Give the person memory scriptures which have to do with deliverance e.g.
· Numbers23:21-24
· Hebrew2:14-15
· Luke 10:17-19
· Mark 16:17
· James 2:19
- The person must understand, memorize and believe these scriptures.
HOW DEMONS LEAVE
They leave through anybody opening but especially through:
a) Mouth- crying, roaring, shouting, shrieking, yawning, vomiting, coughing, laughing, choking, spitting, frothing, moaning, etc Matth8:29
b) Nose- deep, noisy breath- exhalation, sneezing, blowing, nasal drainage, etc
c) Eyes- tears
d) Others- profuse sweating, excreta, odor, panting, urination
NB: we must always tell spirits to leave through public areas and not private organs unless by the leading of the Holy Spirit.
WHO CONDUCTS DELIVERANCE
- A Holy Ghost filled child of God.
- It is important that the gender issue is considered. The presence of a female candidate is essential while the reverse is true. Why?- unexpected things like:
· Demons of lust, fornication, adultery
· Uncovering oneself
· Overpowering (if its a man)
· Lying inspired by demons of rape
· Need to pray over areas like the belly, chest, etc. Never lay hands on private organs of the opposite sex including the belly and back.
PREPARING THE PLACE
Getaway from the crowds. Why? (Mark 9:25)
i. Privacy of the person
ii. Demonic confusion- demons enter others
Physically safe area- you may need carpet, pillows or others that the person will not harm themself (or you).
Ask the patient to remove jewelry: may be damaged or maybe where the spirits are
Remove all sharp objects like knives, razors, glass, etc
Keep paper, towels or tissues for cleaning since some spirits may leave through mouth, nose, ears, or even anus.
Have enough people for the endeavor. Four to six people are ok for a manifestation.
CONDUCTING THE SESSION
Begin with praise and worship:
· It builds faith- Rom 4:20
· It brings God’s presence- Ps 22:3
Bind spiritual powers in the areas and seal off the room with oil so that other spirits from outside will not come in and ask for angelic intervention- Heb1:14
Declaration of faith by the person (Rev 12:11b)
Bind the ‘strong man’. Use the name of Jesus to bind the spirits and command them to a specific location. If you know, command them by name, function to leave through specific orifice e.g. mouth, anus, nose, etc. Sometimes it is not necessary to lay hands (1Tim5:22)
N.B: After the session, additional sessions will be needed. Jesus told us that when evil spirits get out of a person they do not automatically give up especially when the person is not yet mature in God and in deliverance.
FOLLOW-UP
The person needs to follow up visits and sessions to further cleanse the person and see to it that no other spirit will come and permanently dwell in the person- Luk11:24-26, Gal5:1
The person should be taught to continually put on the whole amour of God (Ephesians 6:10-19):
a) Helmet of salvation
b) Breastplate of righteousness
c) Shield of faith
d) Sword of the spirit, the word of God
e) Belt of truth
f) Feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.
g) All types of prayer including for the man of God. When you pray for your coverage you are doing yourself and others a favor, it is like patching your umbrella.
And the spiritual offensive weapons:
a) The name of Jesus- Proverbs 18:10, Philippians 2:10 “The story of David and Goliath”
b) The Blood of Jesus Revelation 12:11, Exodus 12:13
c) Word of testimony, confession Proverbs 18:20-21, James 5:16, Revelation 12:11
d) The Word of God Hebrews 4:12, “The story of Jesus’ temptations”
e) Praise and Worship Judges 1:1-2, Psalm 22:3 “the story of Jehoshaphat”
f) The fire of the Holy Spirit Hebrews 12:29
g) The angels of God Hebrews 1:13-14
- Normally, have males follow up and conduct deliverance for same-sex and vice versa.
- Teach the person how to retain his/her deliverance
RETAINING DELIVERANCE
1) Put the whole amour of God and resist the devil at his first sign of attack
2) Confess positively (Mk11:23)
3) Stay in the scripture (Heb4:12, Ps1:1-3)
4) Crucify the flesh- Luk 9:23, Galat5:19-21, 24
5) Live life of continuous praise, worship and prayer 1Corinth14:14, 1Thess5:17
6) Maintain a life of fellowship and spiritual ministry. Attend and join a Bible-believing church. Find your place in the body of Christ, yield to God and keep yourself under authority (1Corinth12:7-14)
7) Go to prayer meetings, fast and pray with others (Hebrews 10:25)
8) Tithe and be faithful in money toward God because lack of this introduces spirits of poverty (Malachi 3:10-11)
9) Fully commit yourself to Jesus Christ in your flesh/body, soul and spirit.
10) Make sure you do not live a life of sin since sin will open the doors of your life to Satan and he will be most welcome.
NB: with these no demon will freely live in your life. If you are tricked by voices of demons or of thought and the spirit(s) regain entry see that they are cast out immediately.
- Demons try by all means to resist leaving and if they do they also try by all means to come back. (Luk 11:24-26)
- The most difficult part is not casting out the demons but it’s in maintaining deliverance.

At one time, as I was praying, God gave me a vision of a great angel of warfare, holding a blazing sword, which had arisen to deliver God’s people. I got confused, then He told me to open Daniel 12:1: the rising of Michael to fight for God’s people. This is the time to deliver people. In many ways, he has shown me that He has indeed given us the power to deliver people and told me(and you), “I have given you authority over the enemy!”
I want to remind you that Satan was overcome on the cross, it is up to you to enforce that victory as long as you live in the will of God. I ask you to go out to the world and save people from satan’s hold on their lives in the name of Jesus. This is the word: Mt 10:8: Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. Our Lord will be with us and He is coming soon!!!
