How To Distinguish Between True And False Prophets: Bishop Pride Sibiya

1 Thessalonians 5:20-21 tells us: "Do not despise prophecies. Test all things, hold fast what is good." The Scripture us cleat that we need to be balanced in our approach. Don't despise prophecies but test everything!

Allow me to take a few notes from my upcoming book (all rights reserved), Upholding True Prophets, Testing Every Spirit (consider partnering me for its publication).

Apart from what Jesus and the Bible prophesy that in the last day's many false prophets will arise, we have also witnessed many disturbing events. It is good for you to know that we can only have false prophets where there are true ones. Never be tempted to throw away the baby with the bathwater.

This article is not to destroy, rather protect both the prophets and the congregation. Here are a few ways:

1. Inner Peace/Trouble. In Colossians 3:15 the root word for rule is umpire. Your spirit, connected to God's is the referee that determines. Are you at peace in your heart?

2. Word-check. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 gives away the Bible as his norm. Most of what God does not go against the Word. Is your prophet Biblical?

3. Discerning of spirits. 1 John 2:27 shows us that the Holy Spirit Will endow us with spiritual knowledge whether this is of God or not. What did God say before you joined the prophet?

4. Prophetic Confirmation. What are other accepted father's in the Lord saying about that person? By the mouth of two or three witnesses is every word established (2 Corinthians 13:1)

5. Edification Test. Does the prophecy or prophet build you up or tears down spiritually: "But he who prophesies speaks edification ..."(1 Corinthians 14:3).

6. Exaltation Test. John 16:14 tells us that the Holy Spirit will exalt Jesus Christ. In your church who is exalted, Jesus or the prophet, even in testimonies? The anti-Christ will exalt himself in church and even take God's place of Glory(2 Thessalonians 2:4).

7. Fruit and footprints. Matthew 7:15-16. Fruit represents the products of the man/woman and footprints are character. Mango trees can't produce oranges and even when wolves imitate sheep's clothing they can't imitate footprints. Is their life in sync with what Christ would do? Satan can imitate God's power never His character!

Character, not miracles is the thing. In 1 Samuel 18:10, a demon came upon Saul and he prophesied the whole night! Don't just demand to see the prophet's miracles, demand to see his God. You may be shocked!

8. Fulfilment test: "When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord if the thing does not happen...that is the thing the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him." (Jeremiah 28:9). Do the majority of prophecies come to pass?

9. Who does prophecy draw people to? True prophets always draw people to worship one true God, father of Jesus Christ. No matter how "anointed" if they don't have that message, they are false: "If there arises among you a prophet...and his signs come to pass...of which he says let us go after other God's...you shall not listen ... (Deuteronomy 13:1-5). A prophet who does not

10. Blind nationalism, fanaticism. Because of money and resources, many blindly endorse wrong things even in politics and life in general. These are not true prophets. (Jeremiah 23:16-17, 28:8-9).
11. Bondage/ Liberation Message. We are saved by Jesus Christ through grace and there is no need to take people to salvation through the Law of Moses (Romans 8:15). The Law is a great way of living after salvation in Christ but in itself can't save. I cannot be forgiven by Sin Offering or Redemption Offering. Is your prophet pointing you to Mount Calvary or just Mount Sinai?

12. Miracles, signs and wonders. True prophets, who are living their lives according to God's will always are accompanied by supernatural confirmations. The supernatural is is a sign that one is false because God is more powerful than Satan...just that, it should not be all alone or the sole sign. Unfortunately many have been led astray because they think signs and wonders are the only and may important sign! (Deuteronomy 13:1-5, Jeremiah 23:9-15).

Continue seeking God Ina land where true prophets, false ones and true but immature ones are many. I hope this short note has helped you grow spiritually and make the right choices.

If you love God enough to protect the Body of Christ I ask you to forward this message to at least 50 believers NOW! If you do you'd have done a great thing, if you don't nothing bad will happen to you!
