How To Minister From A Place Of Rest with Pastor Berry Dambaza (Part 1)

By the grace of God I have been ministering the Word of God for well over 35 years. It has not been a walk in the park. There has been times when the going has been pretty tough and challenging.

One thing I really need to point out is that as challenging as ministry can be at times, it was not meant to be a heavy burden to us ministers. Biblically speaking every christian is a minister according to Ephesians 4:12. Let’s get down to the meat of this issue.

1. HAS THE BURDEN OF MINISTRY BECOME TOO HEAVY FOR YOU? Moses came to a place where he said to the Lord “Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? And Wherefore have I not found favor in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me? I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me. And if thou deal this with me, kill me...” Numbers 11:11,14,15

The burden of ministry became so heavy that Moses begged the Lord to kill him! People react differently to the challenges of the ministry. Others want to quit while others become chronic complainers. What kind of response is ministry generating in your life?

2. LEARN TO PROPERLY DELEGATE OR GET OVERLOADED!
One thing that we must learn to do in ministry is to properly delegate. Sometimes we carry too much a burden of the work. The Lord solved this problem by simply causing the anointing that was upon Moses to come upon his elders so that they could share in the burden of the work with him. He was single handedly doing the work of seventy men and this is what was causing him to burn out! If you overload a generator it will literally burn out!

And remember delegation is not abdication of duty. You are still responsible for what you delegate! That is why delegation aught to be done properly.

It seems Moses really found it hard to delegate what he needed to delegate. For in Exodus 18:18 his father in law told him” Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it by thyself”Moses was then given sound advice of how to delegate his responsibilities to others.

Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them,to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, and rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens: And let them judge the people at ALL SEASONS: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, BUT EVERY SMALL MATTER THEY SHALL
JUDGE: so shall it be easier or thyself, and they shall bear the burden with you. In other words organize or else you will end up agonizing!

3. SIMPLY ALLOW THE SPIRIT TO FLOW THROUGH YOU! Too many Ministers are restless. Some have even gone to the extent of competing with other ministers instead of complementing other ministers.

Jesus said”Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye SHALL FIND REST UNTO YOUR SOULS, FOR MY YOKE IS EASY, AND MY BURDEN IS LIGHT” Matthew 11:28-30)

Could it be that we have put heavy yokes upon ourselves? His is certainly light and easy!
To those striving stop doing so! To those overburdened by the work of the ministry, lay your heavy laden down and take Jesus’ yoke which is easy and light and you shall find rest unto your soul!
We are simply pipes through which the Spirit flows. It’s not about your ability but about the Spirit’s ability! Jesus put it in this way “Out of his belly shall FLOW rivers of living water” (John 7:38) Allowing this flow of the rivers of living water should need not be a struggle or too heavy a burden to carry!

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power maybe of God, AND NOT OF US.2Cor 4:7 What often gets us in trouble is when we try by all means to power ministry by our own works or energy! When we engage the excellence of our own power, works or energy, we inevitably end up overloading ourselves and the next thing we blow up or burn out! For sure we have our part to play in this equation- We must play our part- Which is allowing His power to flow!

Flowing is His part! Let Him do His part! Flowing in the anointing means we operate in His power and that brings rest to our souls! We need to cease from our own works and allow the works of God to be made manifest through our lives! That is the key to operating from the place of rest in the ministry!

4. STRIVE TO ENTER THE REST! There remaineth therefore a rest to the people (or ministers) of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he has also ceased from his own works, as God did from his works. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. Hebrews 4:9-11

Until you cease from your own layouts and enter into that rest, you will not find rest unto your souls and ministry will continue to be this too heavy a burden to carry! Therefore strive to enter into that rest! Let us get to the place where the excellence of the power at work in our lives is of God and not of us.

That is the secret to ministering from a place of rest!
