Servants Of God And Rest

God, the Almighty One, still has time to rest: “And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day.

Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made” (Genesis 2:2-3).

I guess we all know better that God is stronger than our ministers and if God rested, surely your pastor also needs enough time to rest. Even Jesus Himself and the apostolic team had time to rest away from the normal duties of ministry: “And He said to them, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.
Resting Is Critical
So they departed to a deserted place in the boat by themselves” (Mark 6:31-32). Just two days ago, me and my wife had our breakfast after seven in the evening! A lot was happening, people coming in and going out of our lodgings. I also remember years ago when I woke up in the morning to see people at our home lined up for deliverance. I did deliverance from that morning, noon, into the evening and night until six (6) o’clock the next morning when I finally got time to bath.

This is not right, yet when I was younger I thought this would please God. I was just killing myself. A minister is human and the physical part of his or her being also gets tired. There is nothing spiritual about working oneself to death. It is, therefore, important for the church to set aside periodical times for their ministers to rest. Both pastors and their congregations should respect this law and find time for it. Pastor, we still need you, do not kill yourself!
