“Why Many Marriages Fail” By Bishop David Oyedepo

Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church World Wide, also known as Winners’ Chapel, David Oyedepo and his wife, Mummy Faith has she’s often called, who have been married for more than 30 years celebrated their anniversary recently. Oyedepo revealed some reasons why many marriages fail these days.

He pointed out that the increasing call and approval of equality between women and men have spilled into their marital lives.

Adding that, such women now equate themselves with their husbands against the biblical doctrine that advises women to be submissive to their husbands and that men should love their wives. He said cases of divorce were most in the western world because people in such places have thrown the dictates of God away and have instead started imbibing self-made laws that confer on them near-absolute freedom. This, he said, was partly the reason behind the laws approving homosexuality in such countries.

He noted how he once mentioned that soon, it would no longer be news to find men and women marrying animals. He said he had now been proven right as there are now cases of men and women who married and even got wedded to animals. “Very soon, you would see a male President and the First Lady would be a man,” he said comically, but with some seriousness in his tone. He lamented what the world, especially the west, was now turning into saying nowadays, “they take churches to court for refusing to marry men.

That is how the world has turned.” He told the congregation that women must be submissive to their husbands and that if they follow such with prayers, even if such men are wayward, God would return them to the family. He also warned the men to avoid being blown away by the things of the world as they must learn to love their wives as the Bible had warned.

“When you work in the light of scriptures, you create an enviable future. He also warned parents to teach their children the word of God and give instructions with love. “My grandmother never beat me once. She trained me by words. “It is how much of God you know that determines the level of your transfiguration in life,” he said. Oyedepo, who quoted various verses in the Bible to back his teaching, urged people to learn and work towards achieving success rather than blaming others for their failure. “Don’t blame anyone for the outcome of your life.

No one can be enough reason for the failure in your life,” he said, adding that, even if such people exist, it is not more than 25 per cent influence. “You are 75 per cent responsible for your life,” he said Bishop David Oyedepo is such a rare breed who has impacted many lives through his ministry. He once talked about his journey into matrimony and ministry.”I was in courtship with my wife then, she was my fiancee. I documented my vow and I invited her, we entered into a church and I showed her the vow. Would you still be willing to follow me? I asked her and she said yes. I asked her to sign and she did. His matrimonial journey began when he met his wife, Faith at age 22 at a motor Park and courted for about 5 years and later in 1982, he married her. 33 years on, it is still rock solid.

In 1982, he married Florence Abiola Akano (now known as Faith). They have four children together (David Jr, Isaac, Love and Joyce). David Jr and Isaac Oyedepo were ordained as Pastors in May 2007 by Kenneth Copeland. David Jr pastors the London Branch of the Church with His wife, Kemi while Isaac Oyedepo is the present Resident Pastor of Winners’ Chapel International, South Africa.
