‘Ministry A Higher Calling’ says Evangelist Dag Heward-Mills

When the Healing Jesus Campaign got to the capital Harare – the 11th city in the 14 cities and towns crusade line-up – Tendai Manzvanzvike, together with a Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation crew conducted an exclusive interview with campaign leader, Evangelist Dag Heward-Mills (DHM).

This was after the pastors and leaders conference held at the Celebration Church International in Harare. Evangelist Heward-Mills gives his impressions about Zimbabwe, how he balances his busy schedule and the importance of the world-wide crusades.

Q: To start with, the Jesus Healing Campaign, people around Zimbabwe will be interested to know who Dag Heward-Mills is.

DHM: Dag Heward-Mills is a servant of the Lord. He is a child of God and somebody trying to obey the call of God, and trying to fulfil the Great Commission.

The Great Commission is where Jesus said go into the world and preach the gospel and whoever believes and is baptised will be saved. (Matthew 28:18-20) So, that is who Dag Heward-Mills is.

Q: What brought you to Zimbabwe?

DHM: Zimbabwe is a great nation, and I believe it’s the turn of Zimbabwe. God brought us here. We cannot do anything unless God directs us, and I believe that God directed us to come to Zimbabwe at this time, and this particular season. So, I believe it’s a special time of visitation for Zimbabwe.

Q: You have been going around Zimbabwe, what are your impressions about the campaign?

DHM:
I think that the campaign has been very successful. There has been a great turn-out. Many, many people have come and have been saved. So, we have been excited by the response of the people of Zimbabwe.

Q: And, your message to the people who have not heard about the campaign?

DHM:
My message to the people who have not heard is that Jesus Christ is the answer of the world today.

Jesus says, “I’m the way, the truth and the life.” (John 14:6) So, my message is that Jesus is everything. He is the answer, Jesus is the way, Jesus is the solution that we need. lf we come to God, turn to God, I believe God will help us, God will help the people of Zimbabwe.

Q: Let’s now turn to the personal aspects of Evangelist Dag Heward-Mills. From what we have heard, at sixteen, you received Jesus as Lord and Saviour at Achimota High School in Ghana. You proceeded to medical school. You are a qualified doctor, and people would say why leave the medical profession to go into ministry. Why?

DHM:
Well, the ministry is a far higher calling than the medical profession. I’m saving souls as against just healing bodies.

Man is made up of the spirit, the body and the soul. The soul of a person is his eternal heart, and when you die, your soul continues to live.

So, your heart may stop beating, your lungs may stop breathing, but your soul continues to live and that’s the part of you that is very important, and that’s the part I am now concerned about – the soul.

The soul is very important. For the Bible says, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36)

So, your soul is a very important part of you, and that’s the part I’m now focusing on. As an evangelist, I go around preaching and saving souls, and one day you will be very glad that you have been saved.

Q: You have written so many books printed into millions of copies and translated in many languages and you travel quite a lot doing ministry work. Where do you get the time? How do you balance your time from ministry to family, that is, in terms of having quality time with your family?

DHM:
Well, it’s a challenge always as with everything. When you are even a wife, you have to balance your time to being a wife, being a worker, cooking, cleaning, taking care of the children.

You have to juggle with many things as a woman. And, it is the same thing with ministry. You have to juggle with church, crusades, writing books. It’s a challenge, but the grace of God is helping us so that we can be able to do what we can.

Q: You have three more cities to take your campaign to (Bindura, Marondera and Mutare). What are your expectations and message to Zimbabweans and the world?

DHM:
Well, We are looking forward to going to these places. Jesus died for the whole world.

The Bible says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.” He didn’t just love the people in the capital city, white people or black, Chinese people or Indians. He loved the whole world! So, our message is for the whole world. That is why we are going into those places. And our message is that God so loved the world and He gave His only son, that whoever believes in Jesus will not perish, but will have eternal life. So, my message for Zimbabwe is to seek everlasting life in Jesus Christ, to follow Jesus and to save Him.
‘Ministry a higher calling’ says Evangelist Dag Heward-Mills

And to prosper, the greatest message is: “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these other things will be added.” (Matthew 6:33)

So, we pray for peace for Zimbabwe for now and tomorrow.

Q: Your entourage/convoy is so big in terms of equipment and everything. How do you do this with all the equipment, and who sponsors the campaign, with all the equipment?

Is it from your own pocket or there are partners?

DHM:
The crusade is sponsored by partners — people who believe in evangelism will support the work of God, and they give.

Most of the support comes from little offerings from various people. So, that’s how we are sponsored to come here. We thank all our partners and sponsors, and we are grateful!
Q: Thank you for your time Evangelist!
